Accepting Credit Cards – How it Affects You and Your Potential Customer

business credit card | Posted by admin
Feb 28 2012

Bringing your business to the Internet means you believe in the potential behind e-commerce. Part of realizing that potential as an online businessman is, of course, accepting credit cards. When accepting credit cards, you will certainly make more sales than if you had to rely on bank transfers, check or even personal payments. The major advantage of online commerce is convenience in the end. If customers cannot enjoy that convenience in full, you could be losing out on those valuable sales.

Remember that when people shop on the Internet, it’s because they expect two things to happen in one sitting. First, they want to purchase what they desire without physically going at the store. Second, they want to be able to seal the transaction instantly with a payment. These are the twin benefits online shoppers expect from an online store. If you had to make them rise from their seats to do the second one, they’re not going to take it with a smile. And most likely, you won’t be taking that sale either.

A chance to catch people’s desire to buy is not something you could afford to miss it you’re selling something on the Internet. That’s if you really want to get that website to work. You can certainly do this by accepting credit card payments through a merchant account. The moment your customers find out that you don’t accept credit cards, that impulse would surely be gone faster than it would take to convince them that you’re worth mailing a check to or even seeing to make a personal payment. Either scenario obviously doesn’t go well with the essence of ecommerce so you probably cannot even expect your website to create a difference on your sales this way, short-term or long-term.

There are many reasons people hesitate to get a merchant account and start accepting credit cards, the most common being fees. Since accepting credit cards will be involved in the services of a merchant bank or account provider and a payment professor but bills are normal. From the merchant to the credit card company to the payment processing company to the merchant’s bank and back again, that’s how the whole system works with teams. In other words, people need to be paid to get this cycle working. Therefore, fees will have to be settled. However, as all successful merchant account holders say, the fees are nothing compared to the avenues they open. And for businessmen, these avenues can only mean profit.

Merchant accounts are considered basic to all e-businessmen as well as payment processors. If you are considering accepting credit cards, the best way is to research on the different service providers before determining which one to go with.

Warning: Not Understanding Your FICO Score Can Hurt You!

Feb 27 2012

In the United States mortgage lenders rely heavily on an applicants FICO score in making lending decisions. The score is a reflection of the applicants ability and willingness to repay loans; it also impacts the terms of any loan offered and even whether or not the loan is offered at all. A higher FICO score generally translates into a lower risk loan for a creditor; higher scores usually mean better loan terms and rates.

The industry secrets regarding how a FICO score is calculated is top secret. Fortunately, the company has allowed consumers a glimpse of the process by giving a list of what sorts of information they use and how they use it in analyzing and scoring a persons credit. This knowledge can help individuals clear up bad credit or appeal false information, and handle their available credit appropriately. Here is a list of the information the FICO Corporation uses and how it is weighted in their formula:

The most influential factor is ones payment history. This looks at the individuals history of making payments on credit accounts, and lowers the score for each late or missed payment. This factor is weighted at some 35% of ones FICO score.

Available Credit Ratio: This is the second highest-weighted factor, making up 30% of the score. The scoring process looks at how much credit has been extended to a person and compares it to how much credit is outstanding at any given moment. Available revolving credit will increase a persons score; closing revolving accounts will lower the score. Paying down outstanding loans regularly without closing them also has a positive affect on your FICO score.

Length of Credit History: This information counts as 15% of your FICO score. This factor is important because it can shows how a borrower has behaved in the past and is a pretty good indicator of how they will behave in the future. If you have a long credit history your score will be higher, while those just starting out will have a lower score in this area.

Types of Credit and Recent Credit Inquiries: These two factors make up the last 20% of your score, or 10% each. There are different kinds of credit available to consumers and FICO looks at how an individual has handled these. If there are different kinds of credit that has been handled successfully then it raises the score. The number of recent credit inquiries can give a picture of a persons current financial situation. If there are a lot of inquiries into someones credit the score will go down.

This overview of how FICO scores are calculated can help and empower consumers as they learn how to take care of and monitor their credit and help them obtain more favorable loan terms.

debt resolution & credit repair for California

Bad credit & to much debt stops people from getting mortgages, car loans and credit cards. When credit can be obtained those with poor credit scores pay higher rates and fees. Most people deal with their credit report issues by ignoring them. Fortunately, fears about repairing one’s bad credit prove largely unfounded and lack of knowledge concerns easily resolve themselves with free credit repair information. By taking an aggressive approach, even folks emerging from bankruptcy can find their credit repaired back up to reasonable levels within a year or two. The following article outlines how to solve the underlying causes of bad credit, repair of a bad credit report and rebuilding credit. Before proceeding with this article on credit rebuilding, you may want to double check where you really stand by reading exactly what is bad credit. For those of you who know your bad credit score, let’s start rebuilding now.
If one discovers inaccuracies on their credit report responsibility lies with the individual to begin the corrections process. Letters must be written explaining exactly what the problem is and the remedy they feel warranted. Especially when dealing with inaccuracies individuals must remember that each credit reporting agency maintains its own database of information. Therefore one agency might report an item properly while others report it improperly and vise versa. Furthermore, if a common inaccuracy exists with multiple reporting agencies the repair process must take place with each agency reporting the item inaccurately individually. In many cases this means to remove an item that has made its way onto each bureaus agency report, an individual must write three sets of letters and follow the process through with all three different agencies in order to be sure an item comes off from the reports. Once notified of a problem an agency will contact the creditor or reporter of the item in question and seek a response regarding the accuracy of the item. Under the Federal Fair Credit Reporting Act if the agencies do not receive a reasonable proper response within 30 days they are obligated to follow your directives on proper treatment of the item. Should a proper response be received the bureau may well request more information on why you believe your position be the correct one. Many people advocate dealing with only one item per correspondence. To extend this out given earlier facts that each item must be dealt with individually with each agency, a hypothetical result for someone with ten erroneous items could mean initiating 30 sets of correspondence to correct the problem. Once you find you have completed this task follow up once again or check the report again. Just because a letter has been written and a creditor has not responded within a given time frame does not mean that the agency will remove the report without further follow up and an additional correspondence. On the other hand keep in mind changes may take a month or more to appear on a report. While the process for proper credit reporting is in place, assuring accuracy of your own credit report rests with you. This particular part of credit rebuilding is where most people wish they had professional credit repair help, but for those who just need an extra hand and can not afford that, we help you through the process in our credit help guide.

Disputing Negative Credit – It Isn’t All That Difficult

business credit card | Posted by admin
Feb 26 2012

Disputing negative credit items in your credit reports can seem like a challenging task for the uninitiated, but it isn’t all that difficult. In fact, literally thousands of people dispute negative credit items in their files everyday with no problem. You can too.

The First Step

The first step in disputing negative items in your files is to obtain a copy of your credit report. You can get copies of your credit reports by contacting the three credit bureaus in writing. The three major bureaus are Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. Their individual addresses are listed below.

Experian
PO Box 740241
Atlanta, GA 30374

Equifax
PO Box 2002
Allen, TX 75013

Transunion
PO Box 2000
Chester, PA 19022

Credit bureaus charge a fee to issue your credit report, but the cost is low and you can’t dispute negative items in your report unless you know they are being reported.

Two Ways to Get Free Credit Reports

ONE: Once a year, by law, you are entitled to a free copy of your credit report. Just go online to Annual Credit Report to request your copies. You can also mail your request to: Annual Credit Report Request Service, P.O. Box 105281, Atlanta, GA 30348-5281.

TWO: If you have been turned down for credit recently, the lender that denied you the credit must furnish you a letter stating the reason you were denied, and give you the name and address of the credit reporting source they based their decision on.

You then are allowed to contact the credit bureau that issued the report, explain that you were denied credit because of derogatory information in your report, and ask them to send you a copy of the report. They must do so at no charge.

Step Two

Once you have your credit reports in hand, step two is to review them carefully. Be diligent because credit bureaus are notorious for being loaded with mistakes.

Things to Look For

1. Confirm the spelling of your name is correct. (misspellings are not uncommon)

2. Request deletion of aliases in your report. (delete Jimmy if you go by James)

3. Confirm your current and last two addresses are correct

4. Check for derogatory items that should have dropped off your report by now.

  • Inquiries have a limit of 2 to 3 years before they drop off your report.
  • Slow pays have a limit of 7 years.
  • Collection accounts have a limit of 7 years.
  • Foreclosures have a limit of 7 years.
  • Chapter 13 bankruptcies have a limit of 7 years.
  • Chapter 7 bankruptcies have a limit of 10 years.

5. Check for reported items that don’t belong to you. (a possible identity theft situation)

6. Check for reported missed payments you know you made.

7. Check for paid accounts that still show a balance due.

Step 3

Write a letter to the credit bureaus stating which items you are disputing. Be clear about the items, and state your reasons for disputing them. If you have documentation that supports your claim, include copies of them as well. Send your letters via certified mail, requesting a signed acknowledgment of receipt.

If you have a lot of items to dispute you will have more success if you break your disputes down into several small ones, rather than submitting them all at once. If a credit bureau sees you disputing practically everything in your report all at once, they become suspicious and may deny the whole request as being frivolous.

Step 4

The credit bureaus have thirty days to investigate the accuracy of your disputes and respond. After the thirty days, you should receive a report from each credit bureau notifying you of the results of their investigation. You should also receive a new copy of your report showing any corrections made as a result of the investigation.

Disputing negative credit items in your credit reports can seem challenging for the uninitiated, but it isn’t all that difficult. Literally thousands of people do this everyday with no problem at all.

Feb 25 2012

Students can apply for a credit card, despite the fact that they don’t have a steady job just yet. Even if you’re still in college, it is possible for you to own a credit card and pay for certain things like school expenses with it. These cards are backed up by the student’s parents most of the time. It is especially needed by students who live away from home while attending college.

There are many benefits why you should allow your college student to apply for their own credit card. First and foremost, they wouldn’t have to call you every time they need to pay for something or when they need to buy something for school. The first advantage is convenience. It’s like giving them a revolving allowance, which they can use whenever necessary.

Owning a student credit card also gives your son or daughter the ability to establish their own credit. This is for their future. If they are able to show their creditors that they are responsible users of credit cards, then it won’t be hard for them to request for student loans or anything else that they need financial-wise, right now or in the future.

Student credit cards technically prepare its users for the long haul. Even if it is the parents who are usually paying for their student’s credit card, it will actually be under the student’s name. It is his responsibility and he will be accountable for it. If his parents can’t pay for his purchases, then he has to do something about it because it would reflect on him alone. A bad credit check would only mean bad record for them. It’s not a good way to start their years as an adult.

To find out which credit cards is best for your daughter or son, try to compare student credit cards first. As much as possible, go for the one that doesn’t allow cash advances. Get the credit card that has the most reasonable interest rate too. You also have to make sure that the card carries a credit limit that is just right for his needs. Giving him too much may just pose to be a strong temptation for him to use his card as frequently as he wants.

Every individual wants to improve his lifestyle but in this credit crunch situation it gets difficult for one to afford an improved lifestyle. Some people who need money urgently in a crisis situation. All such cases lead to instant financial relief using a card. You don’t have to borrow money from someone else. You borrow money from your bank and then pay back at your ease.
Sometimes it becomes very difficult to choose the best card available. Some of them offer low interest rate, some offer more lending power, more rewards offered and many more. If you want to get the best out of a card credit then make your decision wisely. To select a card that suits you best, keep following things in mind

Low Interest Rate

Many credit cards offer a low interest rate which makes it easy for you to use your card more frequently as you don’t have to pay high additional charges when you spend money using your card. The company offers a low interest rate so that you spend more money using that particular credit card. But the concerning thing is that, the time period for payments to such low interest bearing credit cards is very limited. You have to pay back the money in a particular time period and if you fail to do so then you will be charged a late fee.

Some cards offer 0% interest rate. That is, if you pay the minimum amount due on time then you don’t have to pay any interest charges.

Longer Repayment Period

Sometimes it happens that you buy something using your credit card and then you have to pay the minimum amount within the specific period of time and if you do not pay with in the due date a certain amount of interest rate is added to your credit balance and more you delay more the amount that you have to pay increases which in the end leads to more amount to be paid even you spent less.

Credit Limit

Choose the card that offers you more lending power at a very reasonable rate. Instead of having multiple credit cards, opt for one reasonably good one that offers you good lending power at a very good interest rate.

Rewards Offered

It is very necessary that you go through all the terms and conditions of the credit card that you choose. What is the credit limit, interest rate charges, minimum amount to be paid and due date.

Most importantly always is wise while using a credit card to avoid any kind of financial problems.

Cleaning Up Your Credit Report Has Its Limits Edit

business credit card | Posted by admin
Feb 24 2012

Credit bureaus do not always maintain up-to-date and accurate information. It is your obligation and right to review your credit report at least once a year, more often if you have been turned down for credit, for potential errors and omissions. Making this a habit can help you avoid a negative outcome the next time you look for credit and help you build your credit score to the levels you need to accomplish your goals.

While it’s possible to make considerable headway against inaccurate and incomplete information found on your credit report, such success is limited when faced with the sad facts about certain damaging information. Legally, there is no way to have accurate negative credit information removed from your credit report. Here’s the scoop:

Negative Credit Information

Accurate negative credit information can be included on your credit report for up to seven years, but there are some exceptions. Here are the facts on the details of what can be found in your file:

* Bankruptcy information can stay on your record for up to 10 years.

* Default information on government insured or guaranteed student loans can be reported for seven years under some circumstances.

* Information reported because of an application for more than $50,000 worth of credit or life insurance has no time limitations.

* Information provided for a job application for a job paying over $20,000. has no time limitations.

* Information concerning a lawsuit or a judgment against you can be reported for seven years or until the statute of limitations runs out, whichever is longer.

Don’t Despair – You Still Have Options

Just because you have a poor credit rating doesn’t always mean you can’t get credit when you need it. Credit and loan granting standards are set by individual creditors and not all of them look at your credit history the same way. Some may only use very recent data to evaluate your credit or give you points if your habits have improved. It might be a good idea to contact potential creditors prior to seeking credit to informally determine their credit standards.

Credit Repair through Credit Counseling

A non-profit credit counseling service can offer professional help in resolving your credit problems. They can be found in every state and provide services for those seeking to get out of debt. They can also assist you in working out an acceptable payment plan with your creditors if you anticipate payment problems, as well as develop a realistic budget.

Conduct a Free Credit Check-Up

Whether you have good or bad credit, you should always conduct your own credit check-up prior to making any major purchases or applying for new credit. Obtaining the loan or credit you want can go easier and faster if you check in advance on the accuracy of the information in your credit report.

Consumers are entitled to one free annual credit report from each of the three credit bureaus. Be sure to exercise your right to this free service and review the information contained in your credit report once a year. If you find discrepancies a formal process called reinvestigation is available for recourse,

While there are limits to what you can affect on your credit report, it would be a shame to lose out on the opportunities you do have. Proactive steps to verify the accuracy of your credit report can help you avoid a credit surprise and will go a long way toward saving you time and potential embarrassment.
